How long does The Edinburgh Dungeons tour take?

The full experience runs about 80 minutes from the moment your group is called through. Allow around 90 minutes in total including check-in and the exit shop.

Is it suitable for children?

It's recommended for ages 8 and over. Under-8s aren't permitted, and under-15s must be with an adult. The shows are theatrical and gruesome — some younger children may find it too scary.

How scary is it, really?

It's designed to make you jump, laugh and squirm — think theatrical shocks, dry ice, sudden loud noises and cheeky live actors. It isn't gory or truly horrifying; more Halloween-panto than horror film.

Most of the tour is step-free but some sections and both rides have restrictions. Please contact us in advance so we can talk you through what's possible for your group.

Can I bring a bag or a buggy?

Small bags are fine. Large bags, suitcases and buggies can't be taken into the show and there's no cloakroom — please leave them at your hotel or use the lockers at Waverley Station.
