Visitor tips

Book online in advance

Tickets are cheaper online than on the door and peak slots sell out — especially at Halloween and during the Edinburgh Festival.

Allow 80–90 minutes

The tour runs on a strict timed schedule. Please arrive 15 minutes before your slot to check in.

Age recommendation

Recommended for ages 8+. Under-15s must be accompanied by an adult. It is atmospheric and can be frightening for very young children.

Fully undercover

Rain or shine, the whole experience is indoors — a brilliant option on a wet Edinburgh day.

Ticket prices at a glance

Prices are set in GBP. As a rough guide, expect around £22–£28 for an adult and £18–£22 for a child (ages 8–15) when booked in advance online. Family tickets and combo passes with other Edinburgh attractions are usually the best value. Under-4s are not permitted for safety reasons.

Fast Track and Priority Entry tickets skip the queue and are worth it on busy Saturdays and school holidays.

When to visit

Weekday mornings are the quietest, especially in term-time. Halloween and the Edinburgh Festival in August are the busiest weeks of the year — book at least a fortnight ahead. Winter evenings feel especially atmospheric with the Old Town lit up outside.

Groups & schools

Groups of 10 or more save on standard ticket prices. Schools, colleges and universities can book curriculum-linked visits with a dedicated host. Email groups@edinburghdungeons.co.uk to enquire.

Accessibility & facilities

Step-free access is available for most of the tour; some sections and rides have restrictions. Please call ahead if anyone in your group has specific access needs. The nearest toilets, café and shop are all on Market Street or the adjoining Waverley Mall.
